Known as "The Father of American Wicca," Raymond Buckland was the first to introduce the Old Religion to America nearly fifty years ago. In his talk, Raymond explains the differences between Witchcraft and Wicca and examines some of the misconceptions that people have about it. He shares anecdotes from the early days of American Wicca and some of the personalities and pioneers of those days.

Raymond Buckland came to the United States in 1962. In his native England he had written television comedy scripts and was personal scriptwriter for a popular British comedian. Interested in the occult for over fifty years, in the past forty years Raymond has written nearly sixty books (fiction and non-fiction) with nearly two million copies in print and translated into seventeen foreign languages. He has received awards for his work and his books are featured in many national book clubs. He has served as Technical Advisor for movies, working with Orson Welles, John Carradine, Vincent Price and William Friedkin (director of The Exorcist). Of Romani (Gypsy) descent, he is an authority on the Gypsies and several of his books are on that subject.

Raymond has lectured at colleges and universities across the country and been the subject of articles in such newspapers and magazines as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily (and Sunday) News, National Observer, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Look Magazine, Cosmopolitan, True and many others. Raymond has appeared on many national television talk shows and radio programs plus BBC-TV England, RAI-TV Italy, and CBC-TV Canada. He has appeared extensively on stage in England and played characters parts in movies in America. He has taught courses at various universities and been the featured speaker at writers’ conferences and workshops. He is listed in a number of reference works including Contemporary Authors, Who’s Who In America, Men of Achievement, and International Authors and Writers Who’s Who.

Raymond Buckland’s most recent books include The Spirit Book, Solitary Seance, The Witch Book, Buckland’s Book of Spirit Communication, Weiser Field Guide to Ghosts, and the mystery novel Golden Illuminati. There is a two-hour DVD version of his Wicca video: Witchcraft: Rebirth of the Old Religion.
